OVERVIEW

As the legal cannabis industry diversifies and grows, so do the opportunities, obligations, and complex legal matters that law firms and their clients face.

Despite ongoing challenges around product legality and liability, banking, cross-border trade, ESG related issues, and a general lack of movement on federalization, legislative bodies, advocacy groups, and individual states continue to push legalization efforts forward, opening new routes to access and markets in the process.

The 2nd Annual Cannalaw Summit presented by Inside Practice, in association with the INCBA, will bring together diverse perspectives from boutiques to big law, in-house counsel, and subject matter experts from across the international cannabis supply chain.

Together they will provide critical insight into current and future laws and regulations, address critical individual cannabis practice and client advisory challenges, and examine core considerations and opportunities as the legal cannabis marketplace continues to evolve.

Join your peers online May 3rd - 5th for the Cannalaw Summit

The Business of Cannabis Law

Any lawyer that has started their own firm will tell you - they didn't train you for this in Law School. Whether you are a sole practitioner, an equity partner at a growing firm, or manage a national set of offices that span multiple jurisdictions, combining excellent client service and top tier legal advice with a functional and sustainable business structure takes a combination of skills that a JD, more often that not, overlooks.

From unique cannabis ethics questions, to client development, to accounting, taking payments, and avoiding money laundering pitfalls, practice in the cannabis industry is just a bit of a different flavor than opening a traditional law firm. Come explore the ins and outs of launching a practice, expanding beyond your own jurisdictional borders, and avoiding the most common ethics and business pitfalls that will kneecap your firm's potential.

Is the Grass Greener?

Weighing the Risks and Rewards of Celebrity Branding in the Cannabis Industry

Do you have Endorsement Envy? Celebrity endorsements are a popular marketing tool for brands seeking to gain wide attention from targeted consumers in a relatively short period of time. Within federally regulated industries, these endorsement deals are relatively straight forward. In the sometimes “cowboy-like” world of cannabis, however, potential pitfalls abound.

From navigating the ever-changing legal landscape of trademark and copyright enforcement to the possible risks of associating your cannabis brand with an already iconic image, our panel of experienced attorneys and operators will discuss the challenges and pay-offs of cross-branding “Maryjane and Megastars.”
